Driving Tired – massage stiff neck muscles

I just returned from a trip to Tara (about 600km round trip). I noticed my neck was quite stiff and sore on the way back. I figured many other people would have the same issues given any long distance driving requirements.

Treatment recommendations:

What has helped me recover from this issue is
1. a massage
2. doing regular neck mobilisation exercises (not while driving)

Having a qualified remedial massage therapist work on your neck is relaxing and relieving. Doing those neck exercises always helps to keep the work of the therapist going.

Watch my short video on how to effectively stretch your neck muscles.

Instructions:

Here is some step by step instructions on how to effectively mobilise  you neck muscles and give them a good stretch.

  1. Turn your head from left to right, attempt to look over your shoulder. Only go a far as you can. If it is painful, stop. Hold for up to 30 seconds or just move slowly from left to right.
  2. Visualise your ear touching your shoulder. Now lead your ear to your shoulder. Gently rest your hand on your head to increase resistance. Hold for up to 30 seconds or just move slowly from left to right.
  3.  Look down your nose to where your nipple is. Now rest your hand on your head and feel the stretch going halfway down your back. Hold for up to 30 seconds or just move slowly from left to right.
  4. Do these exercises several times a day, any where, any time!
